The Barbie Gioca con la Moda collection published by De Agostini is composed by 60 dresses from different periods, from the ancient times until the 70s, and it is already on the newsstands of the entire country.

Francesca de Luca, our pattern making professor, was a key component in this project. The first step, started on October 2017, was a fashion consultancy in which she selected historical images as a reference for the creation of the clothes. The second step was the development of the sewing patterns which, according to Francesca, can be very complex, because every inch makes a difference on the small details of Barbie’s dresses.

The third step was the creation of each dress’ prototype. She also assisted in the choice of fabrics and accessories that were part of the collection, being responsible for the technical sheet.

For Francesca, who always loved to play with Barbie when she was a child, the project was fun and playful, like playing for work.
Every week a dress is launched at the newsstands together with a magazine with information regarding the historical context of each dress and activities for the kids.
